Janek Simon
Janek Simon, ur. 1977, artysta, kurator, badacz, aktywista. Studiował socjologię i psychologię na Uniwersytecie Jagiellońskim, nie odebrał formalnego wykształcenia artystycznego. Jako artysta inspiruje się kulturą popularną (między innymi grami komputerowymi i internetem), naukami ścisłymi (zwłaszcza sztuczną inteligencją), teorią postkolonialną czy ekonomią. Tworzy instalacje (nieraz w formie zaawansowanych systemów elektronicznych wykonanych własnoręcznie), filmy, obiekty. Był redaktorem Ha!art (2001–2002); współzałożył w Krakowie (z Janem Sową, Kubą de Barbarro i Agnieszką Polską) Goldex Poldex – eksperymentalną kooperatywę artystyczno-kuratorską (2008–2012). Nominowany do Paszportów Polityki (2006). Jego wystawy indywidualne zorganizowały między innymi warszawska Zachęta (2005), Bunkier Sztuki (2007), Galeria Arsenał (2003, 2008), CSW Zamek Ujazdowski (2019). Ponadto jego prace były pokazywane między innymi w Muzeum Sztuki w Łodzi, Casino Luxemburg, SAVVY Contemporary w Berlinie, La Colonie w Paryżu.
Janek Simon, b. 1977, is an artist, curator, researcher, and activist. He studied sociology and psychology at the Jagiellonian University; he did not receive any formal artistic education. In his work he is inspired by popular culture (including computer games and the Internet), science (especially artificial intelligence), postcolonial theory, and economics. He creates installations (sometimes in the form of advanced electronic systems he makes himself), films and objects. He was the editor of Ha! Art (2001–2002); together with Jan Sowa, Kuba de Barbarro and Agnieszka Polska he founded Goldex Poldex – an experimental artistic and curatorial cooperative (2008–2012). He was nominated for Polityka’s Passports Award (2006). He had individual shows at, among others, Zachęta in Warsaw (2005), Bunkier Sztuki (2007), Arsenal Gallery (2003, 2008), Ujazdowski Castle Centre for Contemporary Art (2019) and his work has been shown at the Art Museum in Łódź, Casino Luxemburg, SAVVY Contemporary in Berlin, and La Colonie in Paris.
