Grzegorz Klaman
Grzegorz Klaman, b. 1959 in Nowy Targ, is a sculptor, curator, educator, activist, and professor at the Academy of Fine Arts in Gdańsk. In 1985, he obtained a diploma at the Faculty of Sculpture at PWSSP in Gdańsk. Klaman has been working at his alma mater since 1985 and since 1996 he has been running the Intermedia Studio at the Faculty of Sculpture within its structures. Klaman initiated and co-managed or co-founded independent art venues in Gdańsk, such as Galeria Rotacyjna, Baraki, Galeria Wyspa on Granary Island, Wyspa Gallery at Chlebnicka Street, Otwarte Atelier in the former municipal bathhouse, Modelarnia, and Wyspa Art Institute. In 1994, he established the Wyspa Progress Foundation, which he runs to this day. Klaman’s work has been presented at the most important exhibitions of neo-expressionism in Poland; he also created a number of land-art works within the city space, often with the cooperation of Kazimierz Kowalczyk. Klaman became one of the main representatives of the so-called critical art; he is currently exploring issues related to bio-art.
