We have prepared a book titled Avant-Garde Hypotheses for the Year of the Avant-Garde project. The question we asked ourselves during our work on the book concerned the durability of avant-garde attitudes among artists and others, and art institutions. Traditionally, such an attitude is associated with two vectors, experiment and commitment, related to the categories of newness and progress but also stemming from the identification of a specific historical situation. How can they be realised when facing new geopolitical, economic and technological challenges and identified local contexts that determine specific tasks for art, if they exist at all? Will we be blessed again with the faith the historical avant-gardes set about their projects? After all, we, too, live at a time of great change.
